I've got 2 lighter sockets and they both stay on when the key is off. I want at least 1 if not both to turn off when the engine is off. Is this an easy job? And how do I do it?

The Power Points may shut down after 30 minutes you should check this.

Rangers(most Fords) have a Power Saver Relay, that should shut down most power after truck sits with doors closed and no key in the ignition, 20-30minute time frame.

So if possible plug in your device and place it so you can see it thru a window, then lock up the truck and check if it is still on after 30minutes.
Many complain because they did shut off, lol, they wanted them on 24/7.

If it is still on then it is possible that a Ford Dealer can reprogram the control system to add 1 or both power points to be shut off with the key or after 30min.


If they can't then you will need to add a Relay to the power points circuit.
You will need a Key on power source wire to activate the relay, then you cut the power wire on the power point and run it thru the relay.

A relay has 4 connections
2 for the Load, that would be the power wire currently running to the Power Point
when cut one end goes to 1 Load connection, the other end to 2nd Load connection, there is no polarity so it can't be mis-wired.
The Load connections are rated in voltage and amps, you would need minimum 10 amp rating, higher is fine, and 12volts.

The other 2 connections on a relay is for the Coil, when power passes thru this Coil it becomes a magnet, this pulls the metal Load arm down to make the connection inside the relay.
So 1 Coil connection will be hooked to Key on power, and the other coil connection to a Ground, again there is no polarity for a coil, as long as one side is 12volts and the other a Ground then coil will become a magnet.
When 12volts is turned off Load arm is released and power to Power point is cut off.
The coil draws very little amps, maybe .5amp, so can be added to any Key on circuit without changing fuse for that circuit.
