2001 ranger exhaust question
on my 01 ranger with the 4.0 with 4wd. I have 4 catalytic converters, in california, is it possible to remove one or two of them and still pass smog? I believe its 2 small cats, a medium sized one, and a large one.

Legally you probably cannot remove any of them in CA. I don't even know if you can put on a Cat-back in CA. lol....i honestly dont know.

EDIT : Gibson says on their website that every cat-back is 50 state legal. |
Any cat-back system as long as it is C.A.R.B certified shouldn't be an issue.

my magnaflow cat back is 50 state and canada approved.

No you cannot remove the cats they have to stay there unless you wanna replace them all with magnaflow high performance cats. Also technically you can't do anything to your vehicle whether its aftermarket or what since modifying your vehicle is illegal but most cops won't give you **** unless its really loud. Like mine!:biggthump:scool:

cat backs arent illegal as long as they do not tamper with emissions equipment and meet sound regulations. Most dont tamper with emissions equipment so thats not a problem. Its just the sound issue that most gotta deal with.
The cats cant legally be removed unless you are replacing a damaged one with another stock cat. |
my little comment started out as a joke....now look at it. haha.

I've had a cat back system on my 02 for more than 6 years now. Along with K&N cold air intake kit and Granatelli mass air flow sensor. No prob with my Calif inspections as all are CARB approved. I wouldn't remove any of the catalytic converters. You won't gain anything sound or performance wise and it will prob get you in trouble with the law. I'd just go with an aftermarket cat back system and let it go at that.
