My 2007 FX4 Ranger
Hi everyone!
Im new here and have a few questions.
I have a 2007 Ranger FX4 4.0 liter with 73,000 miles. The truck runs well, however, I do have a few questions.
1. The door ajar light comes on the dash while driving (and the dome light as well at the same time) I did the whole WD-40 thing with no results.
2. Are the headlights supposed to be always on?
3. The automatic window down feature is not working on the drivers side window. Also, the passenger side window goes down when the switch is pressed for it to go up, and it goes up when the switch is pressed in the down position.
4. After the truck is off, there is now warning chime if the key is left in the ignition.
These are some of the problems I have found recently. I have not owned the truck for very long, only about a month now. I suspect that these problems can all be related. On a 2000 Ranger I owned before this one, I had some similar wacky electrical issues and it was the GEM modulator.
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the 2007 even has a GEM modulator. I took the radio out of mine and didnt see the GEM. I am getting a little frustrated trying to troubleshoot this. Any ideas, help or suggestions would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
Greg

1) That is a fault with the door switch. Are both doors shut tight? Try slamming both doors with a bit of unusual force. One of the doors is probably out of adjustment in that the latch is allowing the door to stay a bit ajar or hinges are worn badly.
2) Do you have Daytime running lights? These are necessary on Canadian vehicles and I think an option on a lot of American vehicles(depending on where you live).
3)Do you actually have the auto drivers window? I have an 07 and mine isn't auto. The passenger window problem sounds like someone installed the switch backwards. Easy fix----reverse the switch.
4)There should be a switch in the seat that controls that chime. Maybe the previous owner just unplugged the connector to it. look under the seat for a disconnected plug.
As for the GEM Modulator, I have no clue on that. Sorry!

I'll pitch in here -
1). Make sure both doors are closed, my passenger side door does this when I'm driving unless I slam it closed. It has something to do with the latch being broken.
2). Yes, you should have daytime running lights which means your lights are always on when you're driving. Where I'm from it is illegal to not have daytime running lights.
3). Not too sure about this one, I have manual windows and locks. Manual all the way.
4). This is normal as well, it lets you know that you still have your keys in the ignition so you don't close and lock your door with them in there.
