97 Ranger Cruise Control Not Working
I searched the forums and did not find anything relating to the 97 model. Iam having issues with my cruise control. It will not engage at all. Does my model year have a vacume hose commig off the servo? I did not see one on mine, just a wiring harness.
I replaced the steering wheel pods/buttons.
The cruise control "light" will come on when I engage it, but the servo does not seem to work. I checked the fuses, all of them are good.
I believe the brake switch is good, because the cruise light goes out when I press the brake peddle.
My horn works fine.
I think the following might be bad:
Servo or the master cylinder switch.
How can i test the master cylinder switch to see if it is good? I know the 1998 modles have the recall, but not on my 1997. I read in a previous thread to disconnect the harness and jump it with a paperclip. Can I do that on my model? I do not want to mess anything up.
Also, if the clockspring was bad, my horm wouild not work and the cruise control light on the dash would not light, right? It seems to be getting the signal when I press the buttons, but no cruise.
I even tried the test where you prerss the buttons to have the cruise light flash, but mine will not go into the test mode. Maybe the cruise computer is bad? Where should i start first?
Thanks...

Clockspring is good if the light comes on.
Sounds like a bad cruise servo.
Yes, you can jumper the MC switch, make sure you insulate it so it doesn't short to ground. I don't think this is your problem since that switch cancels the light.
I found this: See post #11 from Bob. I think that test works for yours.
