Compressor Clutch Issues

I had an issue with the clutch on my compressor not staying engaged and some horrendous noises while the A/C was running. I removed the clutch to find the bearings completely shot. Got a new one from Autozone for fairly cheap. Now I'm having the same problem but without the squeals. Tried all different sizes of shims and it will grab and stay on until I give it some gas and then it backs off and catches again causing the rpms to drop below 500. I've also had a multimeter in the socket while this is happening and the amps stay constant throughout the whole acceleration. Just wondering if the coils(magnets) go bad often in the replacement compressor clutch kits?

EDIT:: volts not amps dont think the amps change much throughout the system

Compressor is bad.

You're lucky it hasn't seized up and shredded the belt at 65mph.

Might try adding a can of oil. May be too late to save it, hard to tell.

I'd leave the connector off until you get around to that.

Thanks Earl. You wouldn't happen to know how to check that? The air is still cold... when the clutch is grabbing.
