2011 ford ranger gas leak
 

Started driving home after work and had someone honk at me telling me I’m leaking gas. Made it a 1/4 mile. Literally just happened out of nowhere while my truck was sitting. It appears to be coming from somewhere above the fuel tank. Only starts leaking while the truck is running. I can also feel it in the throttle, I barely made it back to work because it was struggling when I gave it gas. It also won’t start now. Any ideas?

Yes, the fuel line from the fuel pump in the gas tank to the fuel filter has separated or cracked, very rare
You won't know what happened until you can see it
There are 2 fuel lines, from the filter to gas tank, either would leak the same and cause the loss of fuel pressure, causing poor engine operation

You will need to lift or slide the bed back
3 screws on filler neck(side of the bed) around gas cap
6 55-torx bolts in the bed

You can then tilt the bed up, leave or put back in the 2 rear bed bolts loosely, so bed doesn't slide back when lifting the front

If you want to slide it back then also unplug the tail light wiring


If you have a lift and transmission jack you can drop the gas tank down, that's what shops do, but very hard to get it back in and lined up without the lift and jack

In case it comes up, fuel lines are nylon and are 5/16" on Rangers, Dorman makes repair kits for breaks and has replacement Ford ends

I was thinking this was rare too. I have no idea how this can happen to a 2011 vehicle with no rust and 86k miles. I’d like to do it myself by lifting the bed but the tow back home would be very expensive. So it’s either pay the expensive tow bill or have it towed to a local shop. The night before this happened I filled the gas tank up. Could bad gas cause this? I noticed the gas pump was pumping very slow.

Bad gas means gas with too much water in it, just FYI, and yes it can cause poor running but not the leak
