2011 ford ranger loss of brake pressure
 

This morning the abs light came on and traction control light and they both stayed on. On my home from work I got off the exit and I didn’t have much brake pressure. I could pump the brakes and get some pressure but other times there would be very little. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and I have not lost any fluid. I also inspected the brakes and I can’t see anything wrong. Leading up to this, I’ve been hearing a noise coming from underneath the truck that sounds like 2 metal wires rubbing together or something like that. It seems to be depended on lateral movement, like today it was very windy and that was triggering the noise when blowing side to side. Any ideas what’s going on?

Nothing obvious comes to mind except low fluid in reservoir

A problem in the 4WABS system will turn on ABS light and ALSO traction control light, but a problem in traction control system won't turn on ABS light

So you have an ABS issue, and instead of shooting in the dark I would see if you can get the ABS codes that caused the light to come on
In 2011 there is an ABS sensor at each wheel, any one of which could cause the ABS light to come in

All car makers had to use OBD2 codes from 1996 and up, still use them in 2023, its the Law
OBD2 has 4 "types" of codes
"P" are engine and transmission codes, power train
"B" are body codes, electrical issues
"C" are chassis code, ABS codes are here
"U" are data connection between module codes

Most auto parts stores will read codes for free, and have readers that can read ALL these codes, WRITE THEM DOWN!!!!!
Cheap OBD2 readers can not read all codes

Currently the OBDLink MX+ is the most reasonably priced OBD2 reader that can "see" all the codes, $140
But it uses/needs your Smartphone or Bluetooth Tablet as the display

Update: apparently it had something to do with the wheel. I don’t know if the lug nuts were loose or the ball joint was bad or what but the wheel is cockeyed and did some serious damage and i guess that’s where the extra play in the brakes was coming from. I did not notice anything wrong with the wheel when I got underneath the truck yesterday 🤷🏻‍♂️
