movement in shift lever detent

My 2003 4.0 L auto trans has a looseness in the shifter detent. Its positions accurate in all positions except D where where the shifter wiggles between N and D causing it to not go into gear completely. Twice it has been in gear but would not rev over 3000 rpm just like it was in neutral. I have to pull it past D to get it into gear completely. The shift cable at the trans will move back and forth when the shifter is in D, but the cable attachment pivot seems fine and I can find nothing loose. Where is the detent mechanism located?

You tighten the t-25 torx bolts at the end of the shifter mechanism?
