2nd Gass Tank??

I have a 2002 Ranger (Edge) and i would like to put a 2nd gass tank on it. So i was wondering if anybody has yet to do this and what they think about it?? Or even if its a good idea?? Also if you could give me some tips on how to go about this. Thanks!!

it came on the first gens. thats why out floor has the bump out for the filler neck in the back of the bed and in the front where the one is now. but you would have to custom make a gas door there is no dual gas door sides for the new trucks. you can go to the junk yard and cut out the gas door on the bed and then graft it into yours in the back and take out the spare and hang a fuel cell where that used to be....just a thought

I'm using the light color scheme and if I could read your post, I'd take a crack at answering it, lol.

Seriously though, I just "selected" it by dragging the mouse and it shows up. Consider letting the system use default colors for your main text because those of us who are visually impaired may use the other "light" color scheme and your green doesn't show up well.

I think the big issue is where to put it. On mini-trucks there just isn't a lot of room under there. Possibilities are to mount a fuel cell where the spare tire is, in the bed, etc. There's no place to put another whole factory-style fuel tank though.

Since we have a high pressure injection system, you would probably need fuel pumps in both tanks, switching of power and valving, etc. Alternatively you could just use a "transfer pump" to bring fuel over from the secondary tank when you needed it and dump it in the main tank.

You'd need to plumb it carefully to keep from having emissions issues if the system can't hold vapor pressure.

The simplest thing would be to put one bigger tank in the bed to replace the stock tank. Just keep in mind extra gas is extra weight so you will get lower mpg's and it will feel like less HP trying to haul all of it.

2nd fuel tank? Geez, I just about cry every time I fill up 1 tank, 2 would put me over the edge. :omfg:

mine feels like I've lost 10-15 HP when I fill my truck up....at 1/2 a tank its runs great!

I forgot to think of the extra wight and all that crap :dead1: So the more i think about it the more it sounds like a bad idea. Thanks!!

Just cage it and put a cell in it.

Remember gasoline is about 7#/gallon.

I've thought about this before, and the best option is something like this:

But ultimately while the idea of long distance travel is intriguing(also in light of the recent paranoia of gas price hikes/shortages), the cost and weight would really not make much financial sense. Also sometimes it's good to stop and stretch your legs every 200 to 250 miles.

yeah i know thats why i dont think im going to do it anymore but the idea is still in the back of my head.
