3 of 4 A/C Fan Speeds

As the title says, I'm experiencing a lack of the lowest setting on the fan control setting. All other speeds work correctly. I've searched, but no one has had the same problem.

I would imagine that the blower resistor is bad, but I don't know enough to be sure. It's also possible the rotary control where the **** is is bad, correct?

Where is the blower resistor located so I can check for burn marks? Also is it a special assembly for the resistor?

more likely the resistor block for the blower motor is burned.....it comes as one whole assembly that controls all speeds located in the a/c, heater box under the dash.

we replace 3-4 blower motor resistors a week.... Most of them on cars tho..

Not sure where it is located on the ranger, im sure rwenzing (sp) will chime in and let you know...

Although there wont be any "burn" marks, they just go bad... they arnt that expencive either...

Most cars are located under the pass side dash, wherever the blower motor bolts to the evap. box.. May be outside on the fire wall also...

If you lived closer ide help you out..

Its funny though, when people come in complaining of 1 or 2 speeds.. but yet its cold as hell, and other people have to spend 2k$ to get the ac working... so BE GLAD ITS COLD!! haha..

Tyler, this will sound like a lot of work, but it really isn't. It is the easiest way tho'.

Unbolt the radiator/windhield washer reservoirs.
Unbolt the cruise control servo (one bolt).
Now that they are loose, unbolt the blower from the plenum.
It takes some wiggling and force to get the blower out past the loosened reservoir.
I THINK you need to get the bottom of the blower out first, then force the top past.

Directly below the blower and slightly inboard is the resistor block (3 screws?). Mine loses low speed every so often and all I have to do is wiggle the connector really good. That connector will most likely BREAK when you try to remove it from the resistor block (it gets baked from the resistors' heat), so be careful.

Don't try to get that connector off until AFTER you have removed the resistor block from the plenum.

Sounds like your Blower motor resistor.
Had mine go out twice. The second time it was still under the warranty from replacing it the first time.
All my fan speeds worked except the lowest.

Just read up on this thread
