3" BL, T-bar crank 35's?

Hey guys sorry if this has been asked before and i am sure yall can give me a hundred places to find the answer but i have a 02 Stepside 4.0 Ranger with cranked t-bars and a body lift that will be here thursday. I am clearing 265/75-16 with 4.5 to five inches of clearance without the BL . Bumper is not clearing by that much only about three and a half or four just wondering if anyone has tried to fit 35's and if so if they were on a stepside with the same or similar set up. I just dont want to tear my bumper off. Thanks.
Nathan

Int3rc3ptor and Red_AK_Ranger both ran or are currently running 3" body lift, cranked bars, and 35's on their steppies. The steppie fender wells are more forgiving towards bigger tires. I ran that set up for a while on my styleside/regular style bed..but was too worried to wheel it. it was a perfect setup for the street.....my bars i had maxed out since they were worn pretty good and sagging. I only slightly rubbed the inner fender. You'll need to trim the valence pretty good should you do this set up.

fordguy, you should really consider upgrading the braking system as well, i couldnt imagine stock brakes with 35s!

Lord Of War 02-09-2009 07:14 AM

I wouldnt go any bigger then a 33 or 295 tire. 35's and a BL are pretty big and if you plan on doing any wheeling like Shane said your done.

TrucknGolf 02-09-2009 08:51 AM

I am thinking of doing this soon to. They are 315/75/16 which are just a little bit bigger than 34 inches. I wont do much wheeling though.

it's okay...everytime the tire size of '35' shows up, goody always tells 'em to upgrade brakes...

which in actuality....braking wih 35's isn't that bad at all. EVEN with steel wheels like i have. Even with the 10" drums still in the back.

06fx4jb83 02-09-2009 04:48 PM

i got a bl and thirty threes, im thinking of cranking them sob's enough to get an inch or a inch and half out of them, if i do this {cranking the tbars} and get an alignment, will i be ok ride wise? i got kyb monotubes

Sorry but that is just too much rotating mass for me. So yea, i bring it up. Because the factory brakes on these trucks suck. May be "good" for some, but my stock disc/drum barracuda that weighs about the same will come to a halt much faster than my Ranger with new pads, wheel cylinders, and shoes. It's only about 30years older too lol

I prefer to my two cars together backwards I guess. Stopping comes before going, and chassis/suspension work comes before looks. I dont like to find the limits of things, I plan for overkill ftw

drive one before you comment its really not as bad as you are making it out to be i have driven many with that set up

Fx4wannabe01 02-09-2009 05:50 PM

I wasn't trying to call you out mike....gotta talk from experience rather than judgeing from a different car entirely from a ranger and expect them to be comparable.

Goodysgotacuda 02-09-2009 06:06 PM

Thats fine, just my personal experience from stock wheels to steels with 31s was enough to tell me to upgrade things before going further. I do plan on 15x10s & 33x12.50s in the future, so I will be upgrading my brakes, so that I'm comfortable. Whether or not I've driven a Ranger with the same wheels & tires, doesn't matter what someone elses truck feels like to me.

Everyone will have a different opinion on what is "fast", what is "hot", what stops "fine", and what handles "well". Just stating what I've seen with my truck, and the actions I'm taking. I couldn't get my ABS working if I try, and I've done it. A$s light truck should be able to wanna lock the rears up under hard braking. Even my worked over stock drums don't stop worth a crap. (Disclaimer; I'm sure some may do better, but mine don't, so scrap they go)

No 'calling out', just discussing :biggthump

Thanks for the good info guys I really dont know what i will do yet. 33's just usually look kinda fat when they are 12.5 inches wide to me idk. I have 35's on my old truck and they look good i just didn't know how it would do. Also 06fx4jb83 had a good question i haved almost maxxed my t-bars and i never got an alignment my tires are cupping a lot well not a lot but over a long time it has seemed like a lot. Will an alignment help this because i dont want to cup brand new 33's or 35's?

I clear 265/75/16's absolutely fine with out a T-Bar crank. You'll be fine. It's only adding 2" to the radius.

265/75/16's ARE 31's. I clear them fine with no modifications. My truck is basically an Edge.

If I were going to have problems, It'd be with the front. Torsion bars just dont flex, especially with sway bars added.

So as long as you aren't jumping the truck, you will be fine.

Actually i think they're 32's. 265/75/16 is a 31.9" tall tire (basically 32"), sometimes 31.8 (still a 32" really depends on the brand and style of tire) , and 10.50" wide.. My stock tires are 255/70/16 which is a 30.9" tall tire, and like 10" wide..

CBFranger 02-10-2009 05:05 PM

I think you're right. Either way, Gong to 35's wont be that big of a deal with the torsions cranked AND a 3"BL

Lord Of War 02-10-2009 07:05 PM

If you crank your t-bars then you have to have an alignment or you will destroy your tires.

Depends on the truck, mine is well within factory specifications. Cranked about +1.5" with no alignment needed. (work at a dealership, so have plenty of access to mess around on the rack)

TrePaul86 02-10-2009 07:24 PM

Ask shane about his alignment. We put on his SL and 35's and he is even using factory alignment lobes... Hasn't needed his aligned yet. Did it all by eye.
