Is your truck a manual or an automatic? If its an automatic, why are you taking it out of gear (except to put it in reverse or park?)

if its a manual I would assume theres some problem with the synchros trying to rev-match the engine, or its a sticky throttle.

I would say a sticky throttle. The engine can't rev without air.

Possiblilty the TPS = throttle postion sensor is defected or dirty. test it and clean it out and see what happens. Also It's a good idea to pull the code a get a reading to pin points the problem even though if you don't have a check engine light on yet and it could still pull a code sometimes!!!!

Get some electronic contact cleaner, disconnect battery, disconnect wiring harness from MAF, remove your MAF from the air box and intake tube, douse MAF and sensor liberally with contact cleaner, air dry (not compressed air), reinstall/plug in MAF, reconnect battery, go for a drive.

Or, shift at 3500 rpm. I had to do this for a few days myself, before I did the above.

TPS are generally "good" or "bad" and cannot really be "cleaned". When they are "bad", acceleration becomes very difficult.

IAC motor's can become dirty, usually the symptons are "hunting" for idle speeds. These can be cleaned, however eventually they need to be replaced.

The symptons described in the first post indicate deposits on the heated wire in the MAF sensor. I would guess that you are running a K&N filter, or some other cotton/mesh and oiled filter.

The MAF uses a heated wire to determine airflow by rate of heat exchange, deposits on these wires gives false heat exchange rates. Normally, the MAF sensor does not go bad, it either breaks or becomes dirty. So before you clean it like stated above, check to see if there is a broken filament, you should be able to see this in the sample tube.
I think you can see them in this picture:

While you have it out, you could try this

The MAF is not capable of making the engine speed up. Just disconnect the MAF if you want to rule it out. The only thing that can increase engine speed is the idle air control, or an intake air leak.

True...idle air control will increase engine speeds, usually while trying to idle. However, while accelerating, your MAF plays a pretty big part in how much fuel you are getting. Though the the MAF does not control your idle speeds, when you unplug it, your idle changes.

I had the same symptons as described in the first post of this thread, I was fortunate that the only thing required for me to do was clean the MAF.

The MAF only controls the amount of fuel, to a degree. You cannot increase idle by adding more fuel, only by adding more air. Also bear in mind that the 5 wire MAFs they use these days also contain the IAT sensor. When you disconnect the MAF the engine thinks the intake air temperature is -40 degrees, which causes it's own set of problems. The right way to see if your MAF is the problem is to run a MAF contamination test with the Ford diagnostic tool.

Agreed. The original question was asked by the owner of a '94 3.0. I don't believe the IAT was integral with the MAF that year.
Also, the engine speed was increasing after he pushed in the clutch to upshift.

Good point. Sometimes the strategy does that, messes with the engine revs between shifts. The SVT focus is infamous for it.

Two questions for you/ya'll if you don't mind,

What do you do for a living?

Do you own an SVT Focus, and if so, do you like it?

I am a dignostic validation technician working for Cosworth under contract for Ford.

What do you do?

I do not own a focus, but I knew someone that did who complained about revs between shifts. I've also read about it in car mags.

Posaible??

Well, not real sure about living in Detroit, but I would not rule it out.

Yes, Nestle as in Quick and Butterfingers (among a million others including pharmaceuticals). I happen to work for one of their water bottling plants. Much cleaner than sugar and syrup.
