snorkel question

ok so i seen a few threads on homemane snorkels, like this thread https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...1&postcount=81 but my question is if you close the gate valve for road use where is the engine getting air from? i mean if you leave the stock setup there too, wouldnt the engine suck water thru that when the snorkel valve is open anyway? or do you put two gate valves on?

I am confused by this post.

For anyone else that is confused. The Gate valve goes in the spot where air originally comes in (the stock location). When it is closed the snorkel is used. So you want the gate valve closed when wheeling. When the Gate valve is open you get cooler air from the front of the vehicle just like it was when stock. This way you don't loose out on any gas mileage or performance.
