Does the truck roll?
Manual or automatic transmission?
If automatic and this was the first time "the kids" installed an automatic then they most likely broke the front pump inside the transmission, so trans needs to be pulled out and repaired, full rebuild to replace the pump
Check transmission fluid level engine OFF, then check it engine running, if level is not lower with engine running then pump is broken
I did this on my first automatic install 40 years ago, expensive lesson
If manual trans its very common to install the shifter incorrectly so trans is LOCKED into a gear and can not be shifted, but vehicle shouldn't roll, if this is the case, and engine should stall when clutch is let out
Pull out shifter arm, manually move the 3 shift rails to center(neutral) then reinstall shifter arm
Longshot
Transfer case has been shifted to Neutral
Pull off the electric shift motor on the back of transfer case
The shift rod has a triangle shape, it should be pointed at 2H, like this: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...ft_motor-2.JPG
If its pointed in exact opposite direction, thats NEUTRAL even though its not marked
