94 Ranger - Issues with light switch

Greetings all,

First time here, but looks like lots of great information!

Just picked up a 94 Ranger, 4x4, 4.0 for my 16 y/o son. We know its a project, but mechanically its strong.
I told him to drive it for a few days and then get list of things that bother him, or that he wants to fix. Then prioritize.

His #1 item was the headlights; problem is that when the headlights are in the middle (park) position the dash lights work fine.
But, when the headlights are turned on (full out position), the dash lights turn off.

We replaced the switch, but not the plunger (It still looked smooth and clean.) and it did not fix the problem.

What else should we be looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum

Main light switch is all there is for the interior lights in 1994 and earlier Rangers, i.e. instrument cluster, radio, ashtray, climate control
Main switch just has the one connection, it has a light blue/red stripe wire connected

The light blue wire should have 12volts when Main switch is in parking or Head light on position, that's done inside the main switch as is the dimming control
Light blue wire is spliced at a few locations to go to all the areas, but all get power from the main light switch wire
