95 to 03 Gauge Cluster Swap HELP!!
 

I just swapped a gray faced 03 cluster in my 95. I noticed that the temp gauge and the tach arent reading right. The Temp gauge is reading Close to the red after the truck warms up and the tach is reading about 500 rpms off. When im on the highway my old gauge read 2500 RPMs at 65 MPH. Now its reading 2000 RPMs at 65. Anyway to correct this?

The 95 cluster is unique and so is the pinout of the dash harness that serves it. The oil pressure, coolant temp and tach are all different in some way compared to 96~2003. The tach may need a ground swapped but I'm not sure exactly how it would be done. The OP gauge probably needs a resistor to be jumped and the coolant temp gauge might need one added. Some experimentation would be involved.

Another fix for the OP and temp gauges might be to swap the 95 internals into the silver 2003 gauge segment and then add the orange 2003 needles. My 2003 OP gauge has the 95 guts so I know that at least that part of it is feasible.

So, the easiest way would be to swap the faces and needles to my 95 cluster?

If you swap the speedo you run the risk of it being wrong. Mine is 3mph off after I modded it.

You need to index the pointer with the pointer with the pin out and key on. The gauges should it at this spot every time the key is on and engine off. The rest of the gauges are not as important as the speedo or tach. So their position is just not as critical.

I have successfully swapped 95 OP gauge internals into my 2003 cluster. You might possibly be able to swap the temp gauge guts in a similar way - I don't know for sure because I haven't tried it.

The 2003 tach should read correctly if the grounds are connected correctly because it's the combination of ground wires that determines if the 96~2003 tach is calibrated for 4, 6 or 8 cylinders.

update - I ended up swapping out the guts from my old cluster to the new one. The only one I diddnt swap out was the Voltage gauge cause the needle hole was to big for the one on my old cluster. Now my cluster works great! Thanks Bob!
