97 Ford ranger v8 swap help needed!
I have a 1997 Ford ranger I am working on for a friend and am in desperate need of help/advice. Here is what he wanted done:
He built a carbeurated 302 with a WC T5 trans, and wanted it installed in the truck. He pulled the original 2.3 out and didn't mark any wires under the hood. I installed the engine/trans using Advance adaptors mounts and plates. Time has come to do the wiring. All I need is the key on 12v /key off no power feeds to power the new installed coil. I used the tan/black tracer wire from the relay box for that. I am using the Lt blu/orange trace wires that used to power the O2 for the electric fan switch. The new electric fuel pump wiring I am using the pink/black wire that ran to the original pump. I tied together the Dk green/black wire with the pink/black the originally went to the fuel inertia switch. ( I now realize this will not work, will have to find another 12v key on source for that). I attempted to crank it over last night and had a problem. When I turn the key, nothing happens. I then pushed the clutch pedal in and nothing. I jumped the red/blue and the pink wires at the clutch switch( connector removed from switch) just to eliminate a bad switch. Still nothing.I used a starter jumper and got the starter to spin, but not spin over the engine. I think it did not extend, contacting the flexplate. I started to look for the starter interrupt switch, but can not locate it. I have the dash apart under the steering column, and the center dash radio area apart and still cannot locate it. This truck was made 01/97, and has manual windows and locks. Also, is a 2 wheel drive model. What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix this issue? I am at my wits end, and ready to pull out my hair! How can I get this truck to start and run? Desperately seeking advice....
