My ignition problems continue. I installed a [ CHEAP ] ignition control module in my ranger with the 302,5.0 in it. It started and ran for about 5 minutes and stopped, hasn't ran since. I have no fire from the plugs. I am wondering about buying a better control module and trying or just changing the ignition system to an old school system, distributor with, points, condenser, and vacuum advance the whole 9 yards. I have been replacing and repairing the crappy wiring job the guy did when he put the 302 in the truck. I probably fork over the money and put a completely new wiring harness in it. I just don't understand the module and electronics in the ignition system. I'm just looking for your opinions and any advice you care to give me. I'm afraid I'm in over my head, but I really would like to get the ranger going. hate getting my butt whipped.

Need a little more detail

Is this a fuel injected system or carb?

What brand ignition module?

No, you don't want a distributor with points
Distributors with hall effect sensor and vacuum advance are much more reliable

The HEI coil on cap model for the 302 is bullet proof, and just needs ONE WIRE hooked up(12v key on), 2nd wire if you want a tachometer, very simplified wiring
