Hello all!

I am new to the forum and I need help. I have a 2003 ext cab Edge model Ranger. I found some like new seats from a 2004 regular cab edge... Both are the 60/40. I took out my seats and noticed they don't line up with the floor pan. Can these tracks be swapped easily or will other problems present? I don't want to keep dismantling everything only to hit a brick wall in the end. Should I just put my old seat back in or is this a doable swap??? Thanks a million!

Take a look under the 2004 seats and see if the tracks unbolt, swap the tracks.

My 2003 Std Cab 60/40 Seats had tracks that unbolted, I took a set of buckets from an extended cab and swapped the tracks and everything bolted back together.

 

04 seats are completely different from from 03 seats. the tracks will not swap! apples to grapes here. 98-03 seats parts will interchange, 04+ will interchange, 83-97 will interchange as far as tracks go.

 

The newer seat TRacks do not bolt on ?

Funny, i guess Ford saved a lot on the eight bolts !

it would have been easier to get it done !

 

they do bolt on, but they are not the same style or setup as the 98-03s.

 

Funny that Ford changed the seat tracks...
Do you have access to and '03 std cab seat track, might be interesting to see what is different and if it can be overcome.

 

not at this time. i have a set of 98-03, but not the 04+. the entire seat is built differently. the recline mech is different, tracks are differently, shape is different, etc. just like the 98-03 seat is different from the 93-7. same as the 98-03 arm rest won't work on a 93-7. they look the same, but mount completely different.

 

Dang it! I just bought a really nice set of seats that were supposed to be from an 04 model. I was going to put them in my 01 standard cab. I was hoping for an easy seat track swap at the most. I'll make them fit, somehow.

I ran into the same problem,I ended up just swapping the covers.

 

Well, the 04 seats, the tracks/frame is bolted to the seats metal pan, BUT it has a different support bar that runs from right to left then my 01 seats do. The 04 is pipe, and the 01 is a formed flat bar. I'll have to wait and see what swaps over though. I'm having my mother steam clean them with one of those handheld steam shampooer vacuum machine thingy's. lol

Yep, this is going to be a pain the the rear. So far it's looking like the 2004 front mounts will line up and lay on the 2001 floor correctly. I may have to elongate the front bolt holes on the 2004 front mounts about a 1/16th or so left to right..

The rear mounting bracket bolt hole spacing is too narrow left to right, and they're far too tall. I'm going to attempt to grind the rivets off, swap rear brackets on the sliders, and plug weld them to the sliders where the rivets used to be. A proper plug weld is plenty strong enough, and there should be 2-3 of them on each bracket/slider.

More details and pictures to come on swapping 2004 extended cab seats to a 2001 standard cab truck. 60/40 with foldable center console/armrest..

Well it wasn't easy, but I got 2004 extended cab seats to mount nicely in my 2001 standard cab. I had to grind the rivets off of the rear mounts on all the seats. I removed the 2001 mounting brackets and put them on the sliders of the 2004 seats and plug welded them on after measuring everything 30 times and test fitting them in the truck. I added a couple small stitch welds as well on the front and rear, once I knew everything would mount up. You want to keep the air compressor handy to cool it down with the air nozzle, because you may melt the plastic bearing guides in the tracks if you're not careful. It would also be super easy to catch the seats on fire.

The snag I hit was that the seat belt would plug in to the buckles, but they wouldn't latch at all. I had to pull the 2004 belt cable tensioners from under the seat and use my 2001 tensioners in the 2004 seats. It all fit nicely, except for the bolt/bushing that ford uses to fasten them to the frame. I had to "turn down" the bushing by chucking it up in a drill and using a file on the side of it while it spun.. Worked like a charm. Everything bolted up securely after that and the seat belts work as intended. The belt system is all the 2001 hardware after the swap, so safety shouldn't be an issue, but copy this mod at your own risk.

I won't add any pics at the moment, due to only having them on my phone. If any interest pops up then I can post some, but it's really pretty self explanatory if you read through it all a couple times..
