99 Ranger Gas pump shutoff problems?

So I was driving my 99 ford ranger as I normally do. And I wasn't paying any attention and happen to run out of fuel like an idiot. So I called my friend and we went up to the gas station got a couple gallons poured it in and she fired right up no problem. The next day I went to the gas station got $20 worth of gas, activated the pump as I would normally stuck the nossel in the tank and began to pump. Well unlike normally where you can just set the pump handle and it will automatically fill until your prepaid amount is up well it didn't. I was like hmmm never had this happen before, so I tried manually pumping it in by using the pump handle and it kept like stalling not giving me gas. Kind of like that feeling when your truck is trying to tell you, you have to much fuel or are already full. But I wasn't I barely had a quarter tank. So anymore its a hassle when I go to the gas station and have to manually "trickle" gas into my tank, I cant even let it fully flow because the gas pump keeps turning off so then I have to just barely move the handle allowing just minimal fuel to go in, while this is a HUGE hassle when I am trying to get just $20 worth the gas pumps obviously takes forever just trickling vs full bore pumping you know. So I tried a couple different pumping stations all had the same problem. I tried resetting the fuel pump still same problem, I tried googling it NOTHING. I was hoping someone out there has had the same problem. My best guess is made air got into the lines or something and is confusing the sensors into thinking I have a full tank of gas when I really don't? But the gauge on my cluster works just fine tho. I just filled the truck up to 3/4 way in hopes maybe itll fix the problem/maybe push the air through although filling it up took my like 10 minutes because of this problem lol. Also I had a friend bring over a device that you can use to test the fuel pump pressure and it was @ like 60psi so I am sure the pump is not the problem. ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated..THANKS GUYS!

Sounds like the fuel filler hose going to your tank is slightly kinked or blocked. Just a coincidence it happened after you ran out of gas.

Well I red an article on this other ford ranger forum site and they said it could be a fuel pump relay problem, I checked into it both the relay and fuse and the fuse was blown so I dk if it matters but I did replace it and stopped by a gas station and filled up and the problem didn't persist. So I am hoping it went away. Ill keep you updated if it comes back. Thanks for the input!
