!998 Ford Ranger XLT keyless entry question
I just bought a used 1998 Ford Ranger XLT, 4x4 with power door locks and windows. The guy I bought it from said the keyless entry "worked once in a while but hardly ever." He had 2 key fobs which I replaced the batteries in, tried the programming as described in the owner's manual and also saw same process via a YouTube video but nothing worked. I am curious if there is something wrong in the Ranger computer module or whether both fob transmitters have worn out (they are the originals) and I need to get new ones? I did find some on Amazon for pretty cheap. Appreciate any suggestions.

Ive got a set for $10 from ebay I only needed one some my brother got the spare for his 08 F-150 they have been very reliable work every time. Only quirk i noticed is they don't have quite the range as the stockers but they do work every time. Id bet the amazon ones are same vendor.

I ordered a new FOB through Amazon complete with battery and the same instructions as is already in my owners manual. I am out of ideas as this FOB did not work either and cannot get my Ranger to even go into program mode. Any ideas?

Bad module.

Is this the RAP module or something else? Is it something I could replace myself and if so, how much for the part? Thanks!

I guess all things are related because my key fob not working and then problems with my anti theft light flashing rapidly ended up being a broken wire and a bad connector near the RAP module. Total cost from FORD dealer was $363 for repairs but my anti theft is working and not draining the battery or going off and my key fobs open and lock the doors.
