About ready to rip Ford a new one!

Ok, I drove down to Kansas City for a competition. Drove around all week and got about a 2 hours away from home. Come around a corner, engine stops! Almost a full tank of fuel, battery connections good, fuel lines good...but no running. No codes thrown, No fuses blown, relays good, ecm communicating...tried to crank it, wouldn't fire. Well after waiting for my buddy to show up with his truck and trailer, we winched it up onto the trailer and on the way home I kicked myself for not thinking about the fuel pump shutoff switch on the firewall. Got it back home, tripped the switch and it fired right up! Now I am pissed! Why in the he11 does this thing go off during normal driving situations. I am lucky I wasn't on the interstate doing 80 when it decided to give out on me.

I think that I am going to replace it just to feel better about doing it.

Anyone else out here have this problem?

I have hit hard bump 4 wheeling, winks "pancaked" his truck had all 4 tires in the air and never had this prob.

SONICEDGE03 06-27-2005 12:14 PM

Nope, was on a really smooth road, just decided to quit on me lol

V8 Level II 06-27-2005 12:21 PM

Did you have a passenger? I've heard that it can get set off by the passenger's feet.

SONICEDGE03 06-27-2005 12:45 PM

Nope, I was the only one in the truck.

rangererv 06-27-2005 01:28 PM

has it ever happened to you before?
If so take it to a local dealership and have it checked out.
Exp. if its still under waranty.
The button may just be bad.
at least you no what to look for if it happends again.

SilverTank 06-27-2005 01:35 PM

Mine only tripped when i slammed into a pole sideways. It was pretty easy to reset the thing by leaning over and hitting the switch.
Maybe yours is bad, siince they should only trip on hard impacts. I'd have the dealer look at it.

Rangerboy03lvl2 06-27-2005 06:46 PM

My switch went bad on me, normal driving, down santa fe, a 55mph zone.... just stalled on me... pulled over... hit the reset started back up... did it to me 3 other times on my way to work that day, replaced it.... it threw a code for me though...

ranger024x4 06-27-2005 06:52 PM

so, where is this "super god like" switch at?

Wowak 06-27-2005 06:56 PM

Yeah, I've never actually bothered to check where it is.. might be good to know?

Pinecone 06-27-2005 06:58 PM

I am not sure if i ever found the switch in my ranger either.

ExtremSOHC 06-27-2005 07:30 PM

It is behind the pass kick panel.

Swoop1156 06-27-2005 07:30 PM

It's near the passenger foot area. On the right side, integrated in the plastic shell. It's in you're user manual, people!

Bigwill41 06-27-2005 07:57 PM

haha funny title...

But i never had that happen tho...

88RangerGT 06-27-2005 08:01 PM

MIne did it once

I parked mine at walmart went in for about 15 minutes. Came out and the truck would not start. Looking through the owners manual I fould the shut off. MIne for some reason tripped while parked.

SONICEDGE03 06-27-2005 09:44 PM

Yeah, if I didn't have a friend with a trailer, I would have been stuck with a tow bill for almost 120 miles! $50 hook fee + $1.50 a mile = $230 for just the tow bill and then the arm and a leg bill that I would have gotten from the stealership to give me a line of bull about how something else was wrong and stuck me with a fuel pump.

O well, I am going to get a switch tomorrow and put it in.

Red_Ak_Ranger 06-27-2005 09:50 PM

Umm would someone mind telling me where the switch is on a dodge 1500 and a chevy 3500 diesel crew cab? I just thought of good pranks hehe....

Should be in the same place. They are regulated like OBDII ports, should be in the same general spot on all trucks. I think that in cars they are in the trunk somewhere.

Diabolic 06-27-2005 10:04 PM

Mine went out after avoiding an accident and braking extremely hard.

Rand 06-28-2005 01:02 AM

I thought basically the switch is a ball in a funnel with a magnet..
if you hit it hard enough the ball moves...
or something like that...

As Swoop said, the switch is covered in your owner's manual. Your manual is your friend. Keep it in your truck. It will answer a lot of questions and often save you time and money and fussing around.

SONICEDGE03 06-28-2005 10:17 AM

The only reason that I didn't check it is because I forgot and also I didn't do anything abrupt or hard enough that I thought would trip it.

gbgary 06-28-2005 10:21 AM

i've never heard of this switch. wonder if the L has one?

It does. It's required.
