AC lines condensating with AC off?
 

I don't recall ever seeing this before on my truck (or cars before), but today when picking up my son from school I noticed the large puddle forming under the right front tire infront of the cab. Popped the hood and noticed the AC lines were very cold and condensating like crazy.

Again, I never in my life noticed if ac lines will be cold when the controls are set in the off position?


Any thoughts?

I've also never noticed that when the AC is off. I have however noticed that sometimes when my hvac is turned off, the defrost still blows pretty hard idk why. Im going to try and replacing the hvac panel hopefully it does something

stopped in at a local shop and inquired. they said its totally normal though oddly enough they did ask if i had the defrost on. lol

still seems like excessive condensation but they are calling normal on that.

On any setting besides simply Floor or Vent, the A/C system is running. AC, MAX AC, Defrost, Panel/Floor, Floor/Defrost. Thats just the way they are built. The A/C system, during such circumstances as Defrost etc. is designed to remove moisture from the interior so quicker window clearing.

Try it out on a warm day....run the system on any setting besides simply Vent or Floor and crank it over to the cold setting.

Thats nuts, never in my life did I know that or have I seen it. I just figured off was off and that's it.

Rick, most manufactures use the AC in combination with the defroster to help remove condensation (fogging) from the windshield and side windows. Hence the AC lines being cold. If the outside humidity is high, you will see water dripping. However, if I read your post right, you're saying the selector is in the off position, in which case I don't believe the AC should not be on.

The A/C also runs in defrost and other positions so that in non-a/c seasons it keeps the system circulating so the seals cant dry up causing leaks.

the heater in my ranger won't pu out hot air-but the ac still works-any ideas on what might be wrong??
