alternators
 

ok i went to mud bash this weekend and i was playing around and my battery light came on and i was **** what happened. so i get it out and pop the hood and look and the engine bay is just covered so i was like ok checked the battery cables and everything was ok. Well come to find out it was my alternator was shot cause i geuss something got into it and fried it... well i am wondering if i am not the only one that this happened too.. cause i see everyone one here go mudding or off roading and come back just covered and the engine bay is just covered and i never hear anything about any alternator problems and if they have what did they do to fix it and if there is a way to fix it. sorry guys about the long post but it pissed me off cause my truck was stuck in stl for two days.

My alternator died too and I'm not a hardcore offroader. I just use the truck offroad to get to bike trails or fishing\hunting spots. I didn't know about this until after my alt. died, but there's a missing or undersized splash guard on the driver's side that allows too much mud and water to enter the engine compartment. I found a passenger side one at a junkyard and put it on the driver's side and it works 100% better.

even too much water in your alternator will kill it, not to mention mud, I would recomend looking into an alternator cover like the ones they have on the new v6 mustangs.

and after i did the bl i didnt get the gap gaurds maybe i will look into something that i can put in the fender wells to protect it

ok well lets see if he chimes in and i went to a dealership around here to look and see if i could see what u were talking about and i couldnt find one that had a cover. all the mustangs they had didnt have a cover it was a bracket the covered the bottom

id just get a high output alternator that is direct palcement....it might cost a lil bit more but you will have more amps to play around with if you ever wanted to add electrical stuff to your truck

It happens to the best of us. I've been through an alternator on my truck from mud too.

altenators do not like taking swims...

ok well the main problem is i have a high output alt but it is the one that like to take ****s easly not the stock one the stock doesnt mind goin swimming
