AC through defrost

You didn't give a year but this is generally how it is routed on 95+ Rangers:
A vacuum line runs from the intake manifold to the reservoir/check valve which is usually in the right front of the engine compartment under the air filter box or between the inner and outer fenders on the passenger side. Sometimes, the reservoir and check valve is one piece; on other years, they may be separate parts.
From the reservoir/check valve, a vac line goes back to the HVAC plenum at the passenger side firewall. On my truck, the actual connection is not visible from above but seems to be somewhere in the general area under the blower motor. You may have to remove the plastic inner fender to see the routing but I would try using a small mirror first.
