assistance please:(

I am need of some assistance... My husband has me looking for a part for a friends truck while they are at work.... His truck wont start, they thought alternator but its fine... Now they think some kind of fuse... Does anyone know what a battery saver inline fuse thing is? those are the key words I got from them lol... I need to know what it is possibly and where it is located... Please and thank you... Oh his truck is a 2000 ford ranger...

he called and said when they take the cord off the negative the truck just dies... What could it be...

Did he have the alternator tested? Generally when/if you pull the negative and the vehicle dies the alternator is dead.

A battery saver is a device that cuts the battery out of the electrical system if the battery power drops below a given voltage.
Where to get it, almost any Auto Parts Store.

Problem is why do you need it ?

If there is an charging system / battery problem it has to be addressed before bothering to install a battery saver.

of course the truck will die when the negative terminal is pulled off.... the alternator charges the battery and everything else gets power from the battery.nothing will work if the system is broken like that.

it sounds like your husband and friend really have no idea what they are doing if they cant decide whether it is a fuse or an alternator problem. i think they will be much better off having someone else look into the issue.

Missed the lifting of the cable...

Have the alternator "load tested".

While you are at it have the battery load tested too.

These are just guesses at best.
Usually if the cable is lifted the engine should still run but since it stalls first thing is the alternator.

Luck

.
Not true.. The vehicle will continue to run. I wouldn't suggest it on newer cars though.

no chargeing

i have a 1995 ford ranger 2wd 2.3L 5 speed.
i drove to work to work and the battery light started to flicker, on the way home the gauge
was dropping, later that night it died. the next day i have the alternator and the battery
tester and everything was good. i looked for any broken or green wires and found none.
on the safe side i bought a new alternator and battery and its still doing the same..
im lost, if the fender mounted solinoid was bad would that make it not charge?
any help would help, Thanks

removed the fuse box under the hood and it was rubbing on the bundle of wires, one of the wires was green thats what caught my eye. i repaired it and its fixed..
hope this helps someone..
L.Pawlak thanks for your help

They found they problem.. follow the negative and positive to the fuse box, its a 125 amp fuse that hooks to that and it was burnt out, it still had voltage but needed changed.... so maybe check yours.. Hope that helps....:)

the truck wont die if the neg term is removed for one and for two, I said the alternator was fine.. They had that tested... they found out the problem, my husband went to school and worked on cars for years... But thank you everyone for the help...
