Back up light help

Good evening all,
my father has a 2010 Ranger 2x4. Back up lights aren’t working. I had an electrician friend over to help me trouble shoot. We determined that power is going to the bulb socket. Here’s the strange part....
witg both left and right bulbs removed there is power to both sides. Put one bulb in, no light and power is gone from the other side.
The bulbs that are in there are 3155k. Could it be as simple as the wrong bulb?
Manual says it’s the right one (3155 no ‘k’).

Any ideas??

Welcome to the forum

This is when a 12v Test light comes in handy
There is voltage and there is voltage, lol, yes sounds odd

A volt meter measures the difference between two voltages, in this case you are after 12v and 0v(ground)
But volt meter is not a Load, and you need to test this type of voltage with a Load and that load would be a 12v light bulb, as found in a 12v test light

The Back up lights are powered when the DTR(Digital Transmission Range) Sensor is in the Reverse position

DTR is on the drivers side of transmission, on the shift linkage
It tells the Computer what gear is selected and also passes 12volts from ignition switch to Starter Motor Relay when in Park or Neutral position, and it passes 12volts to Reverse Lights when in Reverse gear position

There is one wire on the DTR that will have 12volts when key is on
The wire to Reverse lights color was changed around 2007, used to be Black/pink stripe, in your 2010 it should be Brown with Yellow stripe
When in Reverse the DTR connects the 12v wire to the Reverse light(brown/yellow) wire

Yes, Reverse light bulbs in your 2010 should be 3155 it means its a 12v 1.6amp/18watt bulb, single filament
