Battery Replacement

What are you guys using for batteries in your trucks? My wife came out to a dead battery in my truck this morning... got a silver alloy battery coming from work in the morning.
There aren't many options in a group 58 battery... the best one I could order in that size is still only 580CCA.

The last battery I bought at Walmart (for my 89 Ranger) just started dying on me because I don't drive that truck anymore. It's been sitting for about 2-3 years. That battery has lasted 12-13 years BEFORE IT DIED. I think I'll buy another one..

My local parts store has some no name batteries (that only they carry I suppose) that fit the Ranger and they're 885cca.

I'd like to find one that's 885CCA! 580 just seems way too low. The one I put in my Focus was like 750. lol

I'm with Bird76Mojo on the WallyWorld batteries.
My last one held out for right to the last week of the warranty & the one I have now is still kicking & it's almost half way through it's warranty.

1000/850cca's this one was the largest (physical size) battery that I could fit in the stock battery tray without modding it.

They're made by Johnson Co. who manufacture batteries for several other makers like AutoZone, Craftsman, etc. No need to pay more $$$ for a fancy name brand or label.

I couldn't think of the brand name but now that Buggman posted it, Everstart is the name. They seem to be EXCELLENT batteries! You just can't argue with 12+ years of service out of a battery. Although, I did keep it filled with fresh water when it needed it. Regardless, I've got to find a good battery that'll hold up to the abuse my winch puts on it.... So my next battery will be put to the real test... I'll keep the forum members posted on its performance when I do buy a new one..

P.S. I've heard a LOT of bad things about the Optima (red tops) batteries on Pirate4x4 as far as severe use from high amperage draw from winches and sound systems, etc... Apparently, the Optimas aren't what they once were.

P.S.S. What brand of battery terminals are you running Buggman? I like the look of those multiple terminal connections..

GB :)

I've always had good luck with the Motorcraft Gold or whatever it is. 2003 Sable just got a new battery this year. My truck still has the original Motorcraft

ive also heard the same thing about the optima's. from what i was told from my parts supplier is that a few years back Optima sold out to another company and quality and performance has dropped off steeply since then. its hard to justify buying one anyways when i can almost get 2 regular battery's for the price they want for an optima.

I heard the same thing... that's the main reason why we didn't put one in the Jeep or my truck this time around.

Have you tried the Kirkland batteries at Costco? Best value IMO....manufacturer is Johnsons I think. I believe that Walmart sells the Energizer brand.

Yeah Optima isn't as good as they once were.

I've been putting the Autocraft Gold from Advanced Auto in all my cars. You can get a 40% off coupon online at www.retailmenot.com and pick it up in the store.

I recently purchase my battery from Costco. It was the lowest price around. The brand I got is Interstate.

Buggman, could you PM me the information for those battery terminals you are using?. I like them also.

Duralast Gold from Auto Zone is awesome too... Good amount of CCA and CA, holds up under really cold weather, and never left me stranded.

I wish mine did.... my original Motorcraft lasted less than four years, and 80,000km (50,000 miles).
