Fuel Gauge

My fuel gauge moves very slow, is that normal and how hard is it to replace the sending unit. Also does my truck have a low fuel light, I never let the tank get too low (98 4x4 xlt)

you should have a 19.5 gallon tank and the light will come on with about 3 gallons left.

how many miles you drive before you fill up? 250?

i dont think i understand this slow thing? is it way off? goes it ever go to E?

It takes 5-10 minutes to read the correct(I think) level of fuel after I park on a hill.
Before i knew it was slow i would start driving check the fuel gauge (app. 1/2 full)
and when I would look ten minutes later it would read a hair above Empty or on
Empty but i never saw any low fuel light. I Know all the bulbs/fuses are good and
the tank would take alot of gas.

Most likely the float on the sending unit is bad. What you describe is a typical failure.

A cheap way to verify if this is indeed the problem is to use a OBD2 tool like the scanguage and look at the actual fuel level. You'll see it rise and fall within seconds as you stop/go.

If that reading is also slow then I'd say the float is bad.

If it's quick but the guage is still slow.. then I'd look into the electronics end of it. (of which I know next to nothing)
