Best Scan Tool?

Does there seem to be a particular scanner that does ABS and AIRBAG diagnostcs as well as engne of course for a 2002 Ranger people here prefer and ones that don't diagnose the important things. I'd like to just buy one instead of trying 10 of them before I find one that does what it says it does on a 2002 3.0 automatic.

I guess you are using it on the truck in your description which appears to be a 95 which I think is OBD 1. I have a 2002 and it's a mess. I actually just hit the order button at Advance for the Actron CP9680 just seconds before my phone notified me of your reply on the forum, can you believe It?
  • My issue with these scanners is that most of them say things that they can't really do on a particular car. After doing a lot of research on line the past few days I've found that from more knowledgeable people than me they say there isn't 1 scanner that reads everything on every car unless you get into the professional ones that are many thousands of dollars.
  • They recommend you call their customer service to see if the particular item {like SRS and ABS} will be identified on your particular vehicle. I called Actron today to see if my 2002 is on their list for abs and srs detection on the CP9680 I just ordered from Advance Auto online. According to them they said it was in the Mar. 2017 update you have to download. We will see, I don't really have much faith in things like that. I'm crossing my fingers. I would much rather hear from someone who has one that what it actually does what it says it does.
  • How well does yours work on those 2 categories.
  • I have an OTC Genesis I bought 18 years ago and it doesn't really do much more than the 1-200 dollar ones today. The updates were like $300 a yr. if I remember. Totally useless now. The Actron CP9680 seems to have pretty good reviews, I hope I didn't make a mistake on it too like I did on this damn truck.

I have an Autel MB801 elite that works really well. Does all the abs and all the major systems on vehicles. Just recently started using FORScan and it's awesome for our trucks. Get a compatible elm327 device and load up FORScan and you are good to go. Will read and do more things than a normal code reader.

Thanks for your information, I need all I can get. Have you actually read your airbag system with this tool yet. They say some will give you codes for the airbag system and others will actually turn out the light too but I don't know if any of this is true about the srs .
I will post here if the CP9680 will actualy do this when it gets here but as of right now I don't have the indicator light period and have to check this out first.

Even though I got a 1995 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0, usually obd1. But I just went out under the steering wheel I pulled this cover off, and it is an obd2 port. I plugged my scanner in and it powered up. Going to do more tom. when it is light out.
