2004 Not starting

So recently, now that it's got cold my 2004 Ranger 4.0 won't start. It tries to, than it ends up killing the battery. This happened to mine and my g/f's 2004 Ranger 4.0 as well.

I was wondering if this happened to anyone else.

I have a system yes, but it doesn't turn on until the car turns on, and I have a radar detector pluged in.

I am going to take it into the dealership next week, I was just wondering if this is happening to anyone else??

Thanks

Is it cranking and cranking at the "normal speed", but failing to start, or is it actually pretty dead when you go to start it? Does it start with a "jump"?

Frozen water in the fuel line perhaps? Sound like a warranty claim to me... Sorry!

Oh, yeah, you said the system comes on with the truck? Is the power to it switched, or is it an "auto on" thing? The reason I ask is my Bazooka tube is "auto on" when it sees a signal, and one of my transmitters would turn it on sometimes. If you're anywhere around a transmitter in regular use, it could be turning it on.

Or you could just have a bad battery or alternator.

You know how cold it would have to be, to freeze gas lines?

Gas doesn't freeze, along with alcohol. Unless you get to 'Absolute Zero', but by then, we'd be dead anyway.

No the system is an Auto-On when it sees a signal.

It's weird because it has happened to mine and my g/f's which is the same truck. Just seems weird.

I roomates 2001 mustang GT did this same thing when it got cold and the dealership called it a bad GEM module. They ended up replacing it like 3 times.

Auto on with signal can malfunction as I mentioned. Unhook it and see if your problem goes away -- unhook POWER that is, not signal. If radio interference is getting in and turning it on, it could do it -- it sure did it to me.

Well, GEM'S and PCM'S and the lot are supposed to go to sleep -- low power mode. I know if I leave my scantool interface plugged into the port when I turn the engine off that's bad because the PCM never sleeps and it's drain is high enough to run the battery down fast. So it could be a GEM or something failing to go to sleep.

I guess pretty close, but for accuracy I compute it. Your best and easiest to figure out is -40C. I guess you know what that is in F?

C = F like this.

0c = 32F -- Freezing

100c = 212F -- Boiling Point

Take the C, multiply by 1.8 and then add 32 to get F.

Have you checked your fuel shut off valve swicth? Check in the cab and reset the shut off switch.

So I did the check... the EASY check.. Looking at the sight glass on the battery.

It was red. I guess I didn't think that a 5 month old truck would have a bad battery so i didn't bother checking it.
But it is losing a charge, when i checked it at 5:30 it was at 12.38V now it's down to 12.30V so it's losing it.
