Black headlight mod?

What is this black headlight mod I have been seeing posts about on here. I want black headlights but dont want to spend hundreds of dollars for the ones on ebay. Anyone know about this?

bake your headlights, pry them open, tape off and paint the housing, seal them back.

Use the search tool there are tons of threads on it.

if you do this, use nightshade instead of black paint. ive always wanted to see what that would look like . i think a few coats of nightshade will look better than going all the way black. not to mention youd be like the first person on the boards to do it. lol

Nightshade on the lens itself or the chrome? I don't think that would work at all.

Nightshades is junk imo. I tried it on my third brake light and it came out like crap. Much easier to use paint and I was wondering if I should us gloss or more of a satin\ flat look

Flat, it will make the definition of the headlights stand out more.

I did satin black on mine and love how it came out.

Nightshades is a funny thing to work with, you have to have a knack for it. Just spraying it on isn't going to give the best results, if you wet sand it a bit though it can come out very good. I would never use with this mod though.

that would really black it out!!! No I used nightshades on the third brake light and just don't like the look. I don't know if it exists but can you get a clear lens for that thing or does anyone make a blacked out light you can replace it with?

on the chrome. yeah it might not work on that surface but if it was possible it would look a whole lot better and more original than the played-out black

i have wondered this myself, actually... i want to make an LED third eye/cargo light, and have a wicked idea for it, but need a clear lens to work on...

i've said it before, i'll say it again, headlight mod is easy, just do it...

LOTS OF HEAT on the headlights, very little on the corners...

update

just wanted to update a little. I musterd the courage to bake my lights in the oven, so i was reading around and all I could find were 250 - 300 temps so I figured thats what i would do. Melted everything!!!!! Just kidding guys!,I did it in 5 min increments until I found the right temp. After the first one I got the second one off with no problem, it really was easy. Here are my before and after pics.

corners

I found some on ebay that are clear and already blacked out in the back, they are only 30 bucks or so. I was going to just buy them instead of messing with the corners. What do you think? Don't know much about them other than they look like all the others I see and I don't have to do the work

I would paint the corners yourself as the shade may not be the same on your headlights as the eBay corners

^He's got a point, but if they're not the same shade, bake them and paint them yourself.

b4 i even read this post, i night shaded the chrome in my stock 01 amber corners

i used a blowdryer for 5 minutes and it worked fine, but i warped one of them just a little, i had to put the night shade on sorta thick

it has a dark cherry black look when you shine a light on it, but you cant tell when they are put back together. ill try to get pics tomorrow
