air bag light?
Hey guys im having trouble, when i bought my truck about 6 months ago my air bag light on the cluster was on. The techs at the dealership had told me it had to do with some kind of sensor that was in the seat belt reciever on the passenger side. They replaced it and reset the ECU and it had stayed off but for the past 2 months the light decides to come on whenever it feels like it. Im not too worried that it is a problem with the operation of the airbag, just probably a sensor or something but its annoying seeing a flashing orange light on your dash! does anyone know what it could be or have had this problem? thanks - Jay

Codes 4-6 (DS) and 4-7 (PS) are the most common restraints codes on 2001+ Rangers. They almost always occur because of a poor connection at the plugs under the seat.
Before we go any further, you need to check the flash pattern to get the code and post it here. We can help you figure it out.

I have the 4-7 flashing. I just bought my truck yesterday. The person i bought it from said the light just came on. I counted the flashes to verify. I do have an extended warranty but the deduct is 100 bucks no matter what. Is this an easy fix? I did get 500 bucks taken off the price of the truck because of this. But if it is just a bad connection somewhere?

Code 4-7 is for the passenger side seat belt pretensioner circuit. It is almost always caused by a poor connection at the 2 wire sensor under the PS seat. Often, simply opening the connector and plugging it back in will get the light to go off, at least temporarily. A better fix is to coat the pins inside the connector with dielectric grease before reassembly. In rare cases, if the light continues to come on, it may be necessary to splice in a repair connector and that is more work and expense.
The Restraints Warranty is 5 years/50,000 miles from original delivery. If your truck is within both of those limits, the repair is covered with no deductible, even if you are not the original owner. If you don't know the truck’s delivery date, a Ford dealer service department can look it up on the OASIS computer system.

Code 4-7: Passenger side seat belt pretensioner circuit resistance
Both are very common on 2001~2003 Rangers and both are usually due to problems with the electrical connectors under the seat. Check my post above for possible fixes.
My information says that airbag code 4-5 does not exist for a 2001 Ranger. Recheck the flash count.
