brake light problems
 

I added two new brake lights, set them up on my new light bar. I used a test light to find the hot lead for the brakes. While they do work as brake lights and also turn signals, when my headlights are on they dont 'get brighter' when you step on the brake pedal. Initially I thought it was my wiring, but after thinking about it could I be in need of a dual filament bulb?

Also, there are three wires that go to the stock tail light, I am assuming one is a ground, but only 1 has any power as far as turn signals/brakes are concerned, whats up with the 3rd wire?

Anyways more importantly, how do I get my new brake lights to work with my headlights on? I used a truck marker light on each side... It actually looks pretty cool.

The third wire should be brown and is for the park lamps. You don’t need a dual filament bulb unless you want the park lamps to work with them. Which wires did you connect them to?

i connected the driverside to the green wire wire and the passenger to the pink wire. my new brake lights only have one wire.

OK if I’m understanding this right, you installed a set of marker lamps as auxiliary brake/turn signals. Each lamp has a single wire that you spliced into the respective rear lamps wiring harness for brake/turn signals and I’m assuming the auxiliary lamps then ground through one of the mounting screws.

If this is the case, then the auxiliary lamps should only come on when you step on the brakes or with the turn signal on the corresponding side. They will not get any brighter or dimmer with the headlamps on or off. If you want them to illuminate when the headlamps are on, like your parking/marker lamps do, you’ll need to install a different set of lamps with a two filament bulb.
