I have a 1999 ford ranger xlt I put a 2001 bed on it after a slight accident and when I hooked up the wires and got it situated my blinkers and brake lights won’t work they have new bulbs and the wiring is clean is it because of the year difference am I screwed

 

Because the 99 had amber turn signals, you need to use the wire harness that was attached to the 99's bed and the light assemblies from the 99

 

Is there absolutely no other route around that because I scraped the old bed I no longer have it

 

You can do it with one of these, should be able to get one for $20

Its used for trailer lights so made to be mounted under rear of a vehicle
You may even have one already there if you have a trailer light plug in
If you have a 4 wire trailer light plug in then you DO already have one installed



1993 the 1999 Rangers used whats called a 3 wire system
1 brake light wire from brake pedal switch direct to tail light brake bulbs
2 turn signal wires, left and right, from turn signal switch
3 wires, 2 extra bulbs

In 2000 Ford changed to a 2 wire system, cheaper, lol, and, 1992 and earlier also used this
1 brake pedal wire to turn signal switch, doesn't count as a wire
2 wires from turn signal switch to rear of truck and left and right bulbs

Brake and turn share a bulb on each side

3 wire to 2 wire converter, pictured above, does what 2000 and up turn signal switch does, combines brake/turn on left or right side
