96 ranger alarm malfunction

Hey folks- last night my alarm went off at around 3 am. i go out and reset it with the key and not five minutes later it goes off again! Thinking someone was trying to break into the vehicle I go out again and reset the alarm with the key and stood outside with my dog. It didnt take long- not five minutes later the alarm goes off and once again I reset it but this time I also dissconect the battery.

This morning I reconnect the battery and the alarm goes off AGAIN. And then again and then yet again. I'm in the vehicle with the door open and the key in the ignition but the ignition OFF and it still goes off.

This is the original anti theft sysyem that came with the truck- according to my owners manual the fuse located in the in dash fuse box also controls the radio- no help there. The power box under the hood has the anti theft sharing a 20 amp fuse with my fuel system so no luck here either.

How do I dissconect the antitheft without shutting something else off?

This may not be the problem, but on my 95 i had problems with the door sensors keeping the system from arming. Some guy at ford told me to spray WD40 Real heavy in the door latch, i did and now the system will arm. I have to do this about once a year.

May have a bad door or hood sensor. I know you can take the door panels off and disconnect the door latch sensors but you'll lose the dome light, and disconnect the hood sensor. I haven't tried this but give it a try, that way you wont loose what ever the alarm fuse is shared with.

Here is a kinda update on this little problem- earlier this week, my keyless door switch/panic keypad quit working. I took it apart and wiggled the batteries and then it worked. At three this morning that little beast was sitting on my coffie table off my keychain when the alarm went off, all the other times this morning the thing was in my pocket while i was in the truck looking for the problem.

Well I took it apart and so far no alarm- could this little thing be sending a singnal because the batteries are weak? If so that is one rude as hell weak battery reminder. lol

Change the batterys.

And as far as I know. The only way your alarm is set off is if you hit the panic button...I have never been able to set off my alarm.

I believe that I have read that our PATS just keeps people form starting the truck without the key, not from breaking in. And that the "alarm" is nothing more then a panic button the your remote...

Or I could be wrong.

If i lock my doors by ether the remote or by the button on the door it arms the alarm and if my windows are down and if you reach inside and open my door or try to pop the hood the alarm goes off and kills the ignition. But that's only if you have the alarm, if not than all you have is the panic button so any tampering of the truck you get nothing.

Plus as far as i know the gen 3 rangers didn't come with PATS.

I have pushed, lifted shaken and every other verb you can think of trying to get the alarm to sound. But once the panic button gets pressed by something in my pants pocket the alarm starts blowing my horn and flashing the lights.

New batteries seem to do the trick- I'm glad it was a simple problem.

mine kept going off when we would disconnect the battery. was messing with it because the ends that go on the battery were all mildewed or whatever, so cleaned them up. so we just cut the horn off and no more alarm :D.....just this ghey cut off switch now -.-
