It's leaking goo everywhere... im not sure what it is but it connects to the front wheels and it turns when i drive.. i think..
what is it?
what's it leaking?
how bad is it?
how much is it to fix?
how hard is it to fix?
is it ok to drive until its fixed?

if you can answer any of those questions or tell me anything about it please do! Any help is appreciated very much!!

CV axle...it will start to click when you drive..

oil grease stuff leaking
right now to bad but need to get fixed before it breaks and you have more of a problem
no clue bout price

Blhde 12-17-2006 10:19 PM

100-150 for the part.

The shaft will die and come apart if you keep driving it with no lube. You do have a little bit of time before that happens but i woulndt push it. I dont know if you can just pull the upper ball joint out to reomve the half shaft or not.

My guess for labor would be about 200 depedning on the shop.

that is a sealed rubber boot..it has grease inside becuase the CV joint is a gear it needs lube..you broke the rubber boot meanin all the grease has leaked out..after time it will get hot from turnin with no grease and break then you will be spending more money then just fixin a CV

RockysFord 12-17-2006 10:40 PM

yeah, dont drive on it.....

i would get it fixed ASAP....because if it snaps, ALOT more stuff will break....

When i took mine out to replace my axle seals and pinion seal, it was a PAIN IN THE ARSE

Not to mention contamination from mud/sand/water etc that it could already have.. I did a sheity ghetto rigged bandage job with my upper ball joints when the boots on them cracked; I just cleaned them up, packed with lube, and put on new boots.. lasted a few months but they got damaged from not having lube and getting sand in them, so they're shot.

Just call me.

Vids are being uploaded, it's taking FOREVER...I'm using photobucket b/c it's a little faster than my server for some reason.

I think he hit a rock underwater. We were in a swamp/muck/lake kinda thing and he hit a ledge underwater (I remember where it was, it's on one of the vids you will see when I get done uploading) and I think thats what did it.

Offtopic: Zach, you know way more about this than I do, whats the deal with the limit straps for the superlift? Does he need them or what? He had it professionally installed and it is kinda strange to have limit straps on just the little lift he has. He doenst even have his tbars up (they will be after the AAL/shackle though)

Cape Fear 12-18-2006 08:24 AM

Do the superlift shocks have an internal limit? If not then you would need straps.

IIRC they do. But if they didn't limit straps would be right...I wasn't even thinking of that!!! :biggthump

HighRollerII 12-18-2006 08:32 AM

if i recall correctly

zabeard 12-18-2006 09:09 AM

those limit straps are there because Superlift claims under full droop the shocks come in contact with the CV, i don't believe it because this doesn't effect my truck at all. when bill called Superlift about it that is what they told him. under full droop its close but not that close...
