Bypass door switch?

This there anyway to bypass the door switch to keep the dome light off when the door is open but are still able to use the switch on the dome light to turn it on? I have a 98 ranger and I have read alot and have only seen the wd40 trick and it doesn't work for me

You could possibly jump the two wires behind the switch.

Ok illook and see if I can do it my dad looked at it for me and he said there wasn't just two wires for it so he didn't know which one it's the door switch

It should be 3 or 4 wires, one set for the dome light, and one set for the chime/door ajar switch,

The wiring for the drivers door switch runs from the GEM through the LH rocker panel to the door switch. You could install a separate SPST switch inline with this wire. With the switch open, the GEM would not see the door is open. Flip the switch closed and the system would operate normally.

I believe there are only 2 wires at each door switch. Both the key reminder and interior lamps are controlled by the GEM. When you open the door, the switch closes completing the circuit back through the door and then to chassis ground.
