A/C Kit
Does anyone know where I can find a good A/C kit for my '05 Ranger. 2.3L?
Any ideas. Ford says they do not offer a kit. |
I had to go to a local shop to get it done. Charged me around $1300 for everything. Do some looking around there for a good A/C shop. From what I've heard you really don't want to tackle this mod yourself.
Hot down there today, huh? I think I saw that Medford hit around 104 today, we hit 92 here. Gonna be close to 100 tomorrow. And they say it only rains in the Northwest! |
I'm actually in the process of negotiating parts with another member from here who has a truck he's parting out. Yes, it looks absolutely staggering compared to normal mods. I'm sure it would be worth it in the end, and I really don't want to spend that much on my truck at this point. I'll probably see if anyone wants to help in this project if I decide to tackle it. I don't like the idea of tearing apart my truck to that extent.

I dont mind getting my truck apart. I work at a dealer, so we have all the tools. We have a A/C specialist, but he is older. But, I can bounce questions off of him. To what extent do you need to go on the truck? Dash comes out? If anyone can kinda describe the process.. Or a link to it, that would be great. |

I think all the parts run around $800 or so. Everything after that is pure labor.

I just put a/c in my 98 awhile ago... it wasn't hard at all... probably the "hardest" part was getting the Evap core in the plastic HVAC box in the engine bay and getting a good seal around it...
is it a auto or a manual? With my install, W/o a/c preinstalled, there's going to be a few wires missing... but it's not that hard to make it work. If you have the ford tech manuals, you can see there are 3 or 4 wires that tie the ECU into the a/c system. I pretty much ignored those and used the 2 switches in the system to power a control relay to provide power to the compressor. Make sure you get the a/c spec fan and a/c spec shroud, it will help the a/c system perform better. It's very much well worth it! |
My truck is a Manual. I will have a ford tech manual avalible.
So I dont quite get the 2 switches that you did. What kind of seal do you need to get around the box? |
being yours is a 2005 i would try to locate a aftermarket stand alone kit. years ago this sort of thing was avaliable, not sure about newer trucks?
you will need a wiring harness, PCM reflash, and all the OEM parts if you plan on a "OEM" swap. |

I know that there are companies that offer kits to add a/c... they should offer a kit for yours... I ended up getting some foam and sliding it around the tubing. It's held up great for over 2500 miles so far! http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/681/8946/162470.jpg |
Trade it in on one that has A/C would be the easiest.
