Jerking under load

I know there are quite a few threads on this but I still haven't found an answer that worked.

Ive had this problem for a while now. I notice it is common on the SOHC rangers and saw the TSB but mine is a 98 with the 4.0 OHV and auto transmission. Unlike the threads with the newer rangers, mine doesn't jerk while just crusing, I have to put the engine under load at low RPMs do it only really happens going up hills at 45mph@1500rpm. What actually causes the jerking, is it a trans or engine problem? It feels like the TC keeps unlocking/locking but it will jerk 12 times going up a hill.

I would like to solve this problem mechanically but if not, can a tuner with the programming software fix this? I would like to get a tuner to lower the shift points and increase the load but not if tthis problem persists.

Im running a paper filter and cleaned my MAF sensor not too long ago.

Sounds like the TCC to me, not sure if a tuner would fix it. You might ask a local ford dealer or a tranny shop.

I think I have finally fixed this problem. I tuned my truck to lug around in overdrive which really exposes this problem. Recently this problem has gotten worse and worse to the point of constantly jerking up a hill for the whole duration of the hill. wydopnthrtl had suggested to me that it was "weak spark" which was right. The bucking was caused by the engine missing. I bought a new set of motorcraft plug wires and a Screamin Demon coilpack then regapped my sprk plugs to 0.065". After that, I have yet to feel it buck once.
