CB Antenna Question

I got a stainless whip off my girlfriends dad today with a base and coax, but I'm not sure how to hook the coax up to the antenna... the bottom screws off and he said I have to put it around something in there, but I'm not sure how. any advice or pictures?

Thanks Guys

The mounts usually have a base piece with either screw terminals or a coax connector. This piece goes under the mounting bracket (with a proper sized hole in it). Then the piece at the base of the whip, or that the whip screws into, goes into it with a plastic "shoulder washer" between it and the bracket.

Without seeing exactly what you have (several small design variations), it's hard to advise you. Photograph and post your pieces and we can tell you better what you have, versus what you still need, and how to apply them.

Sorry, can't make head nor tails of it. What's the black thing at the extreme right in the pictures? They're kind of small for me to see much I'm afraid.

Anyone else recognize this mount type?

It looks to me like maybe something is missing, but I can't tell. You can always go get a new mount and just use the whip. It should unscrew from that large silver piece at the base and leave a 3/8-24 threaded stud that will screw into any standard mount.

It's a bolt with a rubber/plastic ring around it the next peice long the line is a black ring that fits over top of the one on the bolt, then comes the 2 washers.. I took it off of it's bracket to take it apart and snap a few pictures, but I was told you wrap a peice of coax around some part of the screw (around the plastic, between washers, under the plastic) not sure, and then ground the other part of the coax to your vehicle.

I'm going to take it to the CB shop at the truck stop tomorrow to see if they can make any sense of it.

Well, that's starting to make sense then. It's the type of mount designed to be wired to directly, rather than using a connector. The instructions you were given make sense from that standpoint. It doesn't look like you were provided with a bracket with a terminal to make the ground, so you'll have to do it yourself if you use that mount.

The whole point is to assemble it so the whip itself doesn't touch ground. A certain sequence of those pieces and plastic washers will assure that.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I was told to take the center conductor in the coax, and wrap and solder it in between the bottom washer and the base of the bolt, then ground the negative conductor of the coax because the antenna does not have a ground itself (plastic washers).

Does that sound close to logical, cause I really wouldn't have any idea
