am hoping this is something that can be done at home, my reasoning for getting another computer...to avoid cost of tow to dealer, diagnostic charge plus cost to repair..have seen a couple how tos on programming the pats keys one anyways says have to bring to dealer hoping not the case here... one point where old technology is better

The PATS Module and PCM share security data when first installed together, making them a matched pair. After the security data sharing, these modules will not function in other vehicles unless reprogrammed. There is a special procedure that must be carried out using the dealer tool if either the PATS Module or PCM is replaced. |
rwenzing is right, you will need to take it into a dealer or someone with an NGS or equivalent computer to "re-introduce" your computer to the PATS system. Some mechanics have the computers so you may not have to go to the dealer, shop around.

someone gave me a way to reprogram the pats system...but didn't work for me.. had to have it towed to dealership... definitely last time i try using hand held programmers!

whats normal rate to do this? dealer told me $75 on the phone ended up charging me $210 plus towing to program ecu and keys... doesn't sound right to me!

It was $150 for me for 1 key cut and programmed. That sounds about what it would cost here.
