'98 Ranger 3.0L 4WD problems ???? Need advice !!
Good morning guys,... ( Hope its cool where you are ! )
Ok... I have a '98 Ranger 3.0L 4WD with a 4WD problem. First, it has been without the "High" range for some time, but I went ahead and used the "low" range occasionally as needed. However, recently I accidentally flipped it into 4WD"high" and it only went as far as the "low" range and quit ! Then I could NOT get it back to 2WD no matter what, so I had to remove the drive-motor and mechanically lever the drive input shaft back to 2WD position in order to use the truck further. ( ie: get home )
Next, I bought a replacement motor and tried testing it to see it rotate when the ''dash switch" was selected to either the "high" or "low" range... BUT there is no motion from the drive motor at all. So I'm thinking maybe the relay in the Module is also bad ?? IF I can ever find that module... its well hidden... how do I test it ??
So my question to the forum is: What do I do now ?? and How can I diagnose and resolve this problem? The vehicle is currently in the 2WD position, and the motor position vs. the FWD drive input shaft do not sync with one another... in other words, I cannot get the motor onto the input shaft, even if id did show signs of life. Where do I go from here, and what do I do ??
Any and all advice is sincerely welcomed and appreciated !!
Very best regards...........// Ernie in NH
