Class III hitch on '98 B4000 Mazda.

Would I have to stop storing my spare tire underneath the truck to install a GOOD class III hitch?

Are there any tailgate spare tire holders? I have a cap on the bed, and climb in and out of it with the tailgate up when camping with it, anything I can do to still carry the spare around?

No, not if you are using a stock size tire. My Hidden Hitch does not interfere with the spare at all.

same here, i have a hidden hitch from uhaul and standard size tire still fits with no problem

Hawklore May 24, 2007 08:47 PM

Yall standard 14" or 15"

pacodiablo May 24, 2007 09:51 PM

15"...225/70R15 tires with plenty of room to spare.

You could get a dealer installed hitch from Ford if you are still concerned about the spare. Ford actually requires you to have a full size spare if you want a trailer hitch on a new Ranger.

with my hidden hitch my stock 235/75 r15 tire fits just fine

M50B06 May 25, 2007 03:21 PM

i have 16's and i have room to spare, although the exhaust is tight, but plenty of room on hitch

Hawklore May 25, 2007 07:24 PM

Ok cool guys..

Did yall install them yourself or have U-haul install your hidden hitch?

pacodiablo May 25, 2007 08:37 PM

I put mine on myself. It was a no-drill install. It definitely helps to have an extra set of hands around though when getting the hitch into place.

M50B06 May 26, 2007 08:56 AM

if i remember correctly it was $165 total for the hitch and uhaul installed-although i did help him a little, hold a bolt here a wrench here, just to make sure it was done right
and it has a lifetime warranty, if it rusts, or is ever damaged, (from jackknife, overload) they will replace it no charge

Ok cool Duane,

Not a bad price..

And of course I always offer a hand, if I can't do it myself it's a way to learn.

The factory receiver hitch on my '03 FX4 LII is a class III. I can't speak to it being a 'good quality' hitch or not, but so far it hasn't let me down. It fits a ~31" full-size spare on a 16" rim just fine.

If Ford OEM can do it, it should be no problem for the after market.
