Clutch hydraulic line: How to remove?
Hope I'm not pestering people with too small a question. But then I say that every time.
This concerns the hydraulic line that runs from the clutch master cylinder to the transmission. If I want to replace this line, how do I remove the line from the master cylinder? I don't see any clamp. I'm afraid to just pull on it. It almost looks like it's not even made to come off. Must be some way; I see replacements are sold. Reason I ask is that I've installed a new flywheel and clutch. I managed to remove the line from the transmission end with the quick-disconnect fitting. But the little white collar is boogered up. So I'm afraid it won't come off on the transmission end if I have to remove it again some day. So I figured I might as well replace the line and fitting now. I could see myself having to pull the tranny and replace the slave cylinder some day just because I have a leaky line, so I don't want that. |
Not sure, but I beleive the MC and line are one unit...line can't be replaced.

It is held in with a roll pin.Best to remove the master from the firewall and take apart on a workbench.
Just punch out the pin and the line will come out with an o-ring on it. |
Thanks, OTRtech. Now that you gave me that much to go on, I was able to find some images of it on the web.
Do you happen to know off-hand though ... is the line from the fluid reservoir to the master cylinder attached the same way? I guess it wouldn't have to withstand much pressure, so I'm hoping not. |
If I recall , it just attaches with a hose barb fitting since there is no pressure in it.
I just remove the master and res as a unit. Make sure you bench bleed the master with the new pressure line attached before you reinstall it. The master bleeds better if inverted. Pushrod pointing down. Use a small nail to release the check valve in the trans end of the line whlie pushing in the rod , release the check valve and let the rod come back out of the cylinder. Repeat as necessary. |
