idiot lights sblinking on and off

My 1991 Ranger does not have ABS, yet my "rear antilock" idiot light keeps turning on and then off, it does this several times when im driving around, sometimes staying on for mintues. Also, my "e-brake" light does the exact same thing, sometimes at the same times as the "rear antilock" light. I disconnected the one wire harness that plugs into the pivot point of the e-brake arm in hopes to just turn off the "e-brake" light but it still does this.

Any ideas? Thx

All 1989 And newer Rangers have ABS.
  • 1989~1994: RABS (1-channel, 2-wheel, rear-only ABS) was standard factory equipment on all U.S. production Rangers.
  • 1995~2000: 4WABS (3-channel, 4-wheel ABS) became available depending on option content. RABS continued to be standard.
  • 2001~present: 4WABS + EBFD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) has been standard factory equipment. RABS discontinued.

how does the RWABS work on the 93? it was a solid line from the master cylinder all the way back to the rear axle. only reason i know that is because i had to replace the entire brake line. as far as i could tell it was the stock brake line too

There is a RABS proportioning/dump valve on the frame rail near the master cylinder.

i was wondering about that cause i couldnt find any evidence of ABS near the master cylinder.

i still have a hard time believing a truck this old and this basic would have ABS, as my 96 XJ didnt have any ABS at all. where did you find that data?

and yeah, i was thinking tape would be my fix

Weird. My 92 has ABS...

If you don't actually want to see the black tape, take that cover piece off the dash and put the tape on the back side.

Yeh mine's like that on my 92. They have ABS just the rear. Have you checked you rear brakes maybe they need changed? Maybe you should look into the problem before it gets bigger.
