Complete loss of power

2005 ford ranger edge 3.0 v-6

On my way home from work on Monday morning i heard what sounded like my lifter making a loud sound. I immediately looked down to see if an oil light was on and it wasn't. I proceeded to try and make it about another 1/4 mile where there was a parking lot so i could investigate and I started losing power and check engine light was flashing. I limped into the parking lot and shut my engine off. I popped hold to see smoke or steam coming up and my radiator overflow was filled to the top and the lid had popped off. However the fluid in there wasn't hot at all. I proceeded to check my oil which was fine and perfectly clean.

This morning I went our and my truck started right up. Check engine light wasn't flashing and I decided to drive it around the block which I did with no issues at all.

Do any of you folks have any ideas what the issue is? I really don't think the head gasget is bad and it appears to be firing on all cylinders even though I didn't really open it up. Thanks in advance for any help.

Rad cap failure, maybe

After about 10-15min of driving there should be 14+psi of pressure in the cooling system from coolant expansion when its heated
If rad cap fails then coolant, under pressure, flows to the overflow tank and will cause it to over flow

Its why blown head gasket has same symptom, except cylinders have 1,000+psi when they fire, its what pushes the pistons down to power the crank
If some of that pressure goes into the cooling system thru breach in a gasket(or cracked head) it over powers the rad caps 15psi rating and pushes the coolant out to overflow tank

You WILL see white smoke out the tail pipe if there is a cooling system/cylinder breach, coolant in the oil doesn't happen that often with a breach, can happen just not as common after 1980 or so

I took radiator off and flushed it out really good. Also took out thermostat and it appears to be ok. I'm going to flush out other components of the cooling system and see what happens but could this cause a blinking check engine light for a cylinder misfire? Thanks for your response
