custom exhaust: how much is too much?

I got 3 quotes today for $440, $500, and $525
I'm getting a custom dual exhaust with straight pipes put in and I'm supplying the muffler. They told me I don't need a cat in an older truck like that so the quotes are without a cat, and me supplying muffler. what do you guys think?

zabeard 12-06-2005 09:21 PM

um is that american or canadian money? plus why ditch the cat? something wrong with it?

spec_ops57 12-06-2005 10:08 PM

canadian, sorry
and nothin wrong with the cat, they'll just charge me extra to cut it off my old one and weld it into the new one, or weld a brand new one, so if I can get away with not having one then it's all good

KARPE 12-06-2005 10:10 PM

if you are supplying the mufler i wouldnt pay over 250 american I don tknow the exchange rate.

spec_ops57 12-06-2005 10:35 PM

289.546 CAD
I've still got a few more places to check, one I heard that's really good but haven't been able to get ahold of yet, but after that, I'll just get the guys together, cut up some pipe, and do it myself

I supplied my muffler and tips and paid 200 for the labor. The muffler was expensive, 65 bucks, and the tips wre 50. That's all USD.

idk the labor rate is what gets you and its different everywhere. also depends on how good of benders they are and how much time they take. if they are good benders and want it right, treating your truck as if it is theirs they want it perfect also. that is more what i look for than a cheap exhaust place.

for just piping duals back from my borla which is already mounted, and i am bringing in the tips they want 200 for pipe and labor. i didnt think that was all that bad and i know its gonna be done right.

When I got My Flows I paid $410 installed, that included muffler, tips, pipes, and labor. that was good for down my way, others wanted $450 and up. Good Luck!

The 2.5" Gibson catback exhaust that I purchased online was $250 which included 2 day FedEx shipping and I didnt charge myself any labor for installing the exhaust pipe, muffler, hangers and tip. Looks good and sounds throaty... without being too loud in the cab.

We will soon be adding Magnaflow systems to the website, i think youll find the prices are pretty good, compared to what youre seeing for custom. The magnaflow kits inclued polished SS magnaflow muffler, polishes SS tip/s, all stainless, mandrel bent pipe, and engineered and tested for your vehicle.

Its going a little slow adding them to the site because there are so many part numbers

spec_ops57 12-07-2005 03:21 PM

I'm just going to buy some cheap walmart chrome tips or something and put those on myself, and get a cheap $150CAD or so magnaflow. I'd be happy if I could find the tubing and labor for $280 or so

I paid $260 for my exhaust system installed. They cut off the factory exhaust just before the muffler, welded in a brand new 40 series single inlet/dual outlet muffler, bent both the tailpipes( a very good job I might add), and installed 2 3 1/2" stainless Magnaflow slash cut rolled edge tips. Great muffler shop here in my town and the guy charges everything as labor so that there is no sales tax on parts. :-)
