Brakes on new Rangers

Brakes on new Rangers
So I have a 2008 and ever since I picked it up the brakes squeek about 80% of the time when I'm on the brake. I talked to the dealership and the first guy said it was knocking off rust from the train ride. I ended up taking it in a few weeks later for a different problem and told them to check it. I was told everything looks fine and because of the new metal brakes they use they will do that for the first 5K miles. Well, I ended up having to take it back to the dealership 'cause they unbolted the shifter and barely put it back on so when I was back I talked to him again and he said by 7K the brakes should stop squeeking. Well, I'm almost at 8K now and I hate driving down the road in a brand new truck and havin the brakes squeek! An ideas on how to fix this myself or talk to service dept. into taking care of it?

Go to the service manager at the dealership you have been taking it to and tell him that you have been getting the royal run around and want something done about it. If that doesn't work try the manager over the whole dealership, and if that doesn't work take it to a different dealership.

Sounds like they are blowing you off.
You can do this.. go for a drive and put some heat into the brakes. Just to 2-3 *normal* 40mph to 5mph stops. Then get up to 50mph and do a hard ABS activated type of stop slowing down to only 5mph (don't fully stop). Speed back up to 50mph and do it again. Then go for a easy drive and let them cool off **without coming to a full stop**. That way you'll seat the pads *and* not transfer pad material to the disks / rotors.
When you do this.. the most important thing is to not come to a dead stop when the brakes are very hot.
Once the brakes are back to normal temps park it for at least an hour and let them reach ambient temps.
btw, This is the seating process for new ceramic brakes. And it also works on normal brakes.

I have an 08' with 9100 miles. I noticed that occasionally I get a squeel, but only if it is raining or sometimes when I start the vehicle 1st thing in the morning and get going. I have had other Rangers in the past and they all tended to squeel off and on. I have heard they use cheap materials. My old 04 4*4 needed a full brake job at less than 30,000 miles. Mind you I drove 45 miles a day highway. I went 50,000 miles on my 97' Ranger's original brakes before I needed work done. Even the shop was amazed, but then again all highway miles.

Yeah... they said they are metal brakes so would that seating thing work for them? Besides, I'm in Seattle! There's no way I'm gonna be able to spend that much time just driving around... I'll have to get out to Eastern WA.... I actually thought about doing that before but I think I'll take one last shot at the dealership and see if they'll get their act in gear... you guys are awesome

I got the same thing on my 07 but it started at 7K and is still doing it at almost 17K. Brought it to the dealership a few times and they could never get them to squeak. Of course the squeaking seems to be less in the rain for some reason and if I'm under 30 it will rarly squeak. It has become more speratic lately though. If I ride the brakes for a while the squealing won't happen for a few brakings. If it start to squeal I just lay on the brakes harder and the squealing stops. It does get to me when I have a brand new truck with squealing brakes and my '87 Toyota 4x4 with 170(ish)K doesn't even have a hint of squeak in the brakes.
Dealer gave me the "pads are glazing" and "some squeak is normal" lines.
I've given up. If the squeaking really starts to annoy me and I have the cash I'll change out the front pads. Brakes work 100%. I can't even figure out of its the fronts or back squeaking. I'm figuring the fronts though.
