Diff Locker Engaged when in 4 Wheel Drive
Diff Locker Engaged when in 4 Wheel Drive
Hey all,
I have a 2022 Ford Ranger, my second of the latest generation. This model is XLT 4X4 model. I love it as it handles everything I need. It includes an electronic (magnetic) diff locker that can be engaged from a button on the console in any mode apparently, either 2WD or 4WD, which is pretty cool. However, I found out that if 4WD is engaged, the diff locker engages automatically, whether the control button is pressed or not. Now that doesn't seem to be a bad thing right, cuz when you need 4WD, you're generally off-road and any wheel slippage is normal (I guess...). However, when it snows here, we get a lot of ice, so I naturally engage 4WD and drive slow. Everything is fine until snow/ice starts melting and when you turn on patches of dry pavement one of the rear wheels actually skids, which worries me that I might be causing undue wear on the drivetrain. Does this seem right to y'all? To me the diff locker should NOT engage in either 2WD or 4WD UNLESS I press the diff lock button. Am I wrong in my thinking?
